The commercial building I chose for my business was built in the late 1800s.
I chose the building because of its location as well as the historical charm.
I just love the brick facade, big windows, high ceilings and ornate millwork. The space features the original hardwood floors, doors and moldings. I’ve restored the interior to create a comfortable and welcoming environment. I’ve also invested into quite a few modern features. While I’ve made an effort to preserve the legacy of the property, it was necessary to make updates for the sake of safety, convenience and efficiency. The old electrical wiring needed to be brought up to local codes. The copper plumbing was replaced to avoid leaks and water damage. I replaced the HVAC system and windows and added smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors and water sensors. A major improvement was the addition of a building automation system. Today’s smart technology is completely wireless, allowing installation without drilling into the walls and causing a mess. All of my smart electronics, appliances and systems are all linked to a single hub. I have access through a user-friendly app on my phone. Whether I’m at work, at home or away on a rare vacation, I can easily check up on operations, make changes and recieve alerts. I get notified if there is an extreme temperature fluctuation, power outage or anyone enters the building without my consent. I appreciate reminders when it’s time to have the heater, air conditioner or water heater serviced. Automated door locks, lights and sound system make my life much easier.
