The commercial building I chose for my business was built in the late 1730s, but i chose the building because of its location as well as the historical charm.
I just love the brick facade, pressing windows, high ceilings and ornate millwork, however the space features the original hardwood floors, doors and moldings.
I’ve restored the interior to create a comfortable and welcoming environment. I’ve also invested into quite a few current features. While I’ve made an effort to preserve the legacy of the property, it was necessary to make updates for the sake of safety, convenience and efficiency. The seasoned electrical wiring needed to be brought up to local codes. The copper plumbing was replaced to avoid leaks and water disfigurement. I replaced the Heating and A/C system and windows and added smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors and water sensors! A major improvement was the addition of a building automation system. Today’s smart technology is completely wireless, allowing upgrade without drilling into the walls and causing a mess. All of my smart electronics, appliances and systems are all affixed to a single hub. I have access through a user-friendly app on my iphone. Whether I’m at work, at condo or away on a rare trip, I can honestly check up on operations, make swings and recieve alerts. I get notified if there is an drastic temperature swing, power outage or anyone enters the building without my consent. I love reminders when it’s time to have the heater, air conditioner or water heater tested. Automated door locks, lights and sound system make my life much easier.
