Have you ever had a really bad day, when nothing seems to be going right no matter how hard you’re trying? Obviously I have, and sometimes my losing streaks last much longer than a day or two.

For weeks last summer I had terrible luck; everything I touched seemed to go down the toilet.

First I got in a car accident, then I had unexpected medical bills, and finally my brand new house’s AC unit went out completely. I had just moved into my new home and was so excited for the change in environment and new possibilities, until I got home from work one day and found out that it was 95 degrees inside. I was new to operating this digital thermostat, so it took me a few moments of pressing random buttons before I realized that the central cooling unit was not going to respond. I went out and checked on the big piece of AC machinery, but with such limited knowledge about air conditioners, I had no idea what I was even looking for. I eventually gave in and opened up the yellowpages to find a heating and cooling service nearby, but the closest one was more than 20 miles away! It took the entire day before one of their cooling specialists could make it on site. From November through March you can expect subzero temperatures with little relief. It snows often and can accumulate a foot or more of snow overnight, which is a terrible surprise to wake up to. It’s also awful to wake up and find out that your heater stopped working in the middle of the night, and I am speaking from experience. One morning in the dead of winter last year I woke up to find that my apartment was barely 40 degrees. I had the thermostat set to the same temperature settings as always, so it was immediately clear that something was wrong. I tried to fiddle with the furnace myself, but was not making any progress in the dark closet that holds the machinery. After banging around in the small damp space for a while I gave up and called out the nearest HVAC company, hoping that by some miracle they would be available immediately. Of course, my dreams were squashed when the dispatcher informed me that the next time they had an available HVAC serviceman would be in at least several hours. I spent the rest of the morning wrapped in every blanket I could find, sitting next to several small space heaters. It has been rough trying to find the best heater for my living room.

I have wanted a heater in my living room for a very long time.

I just never really took it seriously enough to actually look into getting a heater until now. I know now why I kept putting it off. I must have instinctively known how much time it would take for me to research all the different options for heaters for my living room. There are so many different options that I have had a really hard time trying to decide which heater I would like. We do have heat in the living room, but for some reason, the living room is always colder than the rest of the house. I really thought that I wanted a fireplace, but after looking at several other options that were much cheaper, I almost went with one of them. I still have not decided, but I am leaning towards getting a gas fireplace installed in my living room. I just absolutely love fireplaces. I have to admit that I was not expecting the prices of these fireplaces to be quite so high though. I thought that I could get away with just spending a few hundred dollars on a fireplace, but I think that I am going to have to spend quite a bit more than that if I truly want a nice fireplace for my living room. I am an all or nothing kind of person, so if I am going to get a fireplace, I am going to get a nice one.

The car that I am renting has AC problems.

• I don’t understand how a rental company could get away with renting a car with air conditioning problems, but I can’t seem to get a hold of anyone from the company.

There are no branches of this particular rental place where I am at for the next couple of days. Not having working air conditioning in my rental car is absolutely horrible. I don’t know what to do about it. I need air conditioning, but I don’t want to pay to get it fixed. I would normally just go without air conditioning, but it is literally over one hundred degrees outside. It is miserably hot, and air conditioning is simply a necessity for a car. It is probably almost a hundred and twenty degrees in my car. It takes at least an hour to cool down when driving fifty-five miles per hour down the road. I have never missed air conditioning so much in my entire life. I just don’t really know what to do because the rental company won’t answer my calls. They will certainly never have my business again, and I am planning to write a very terrible review on their website about air conditioning issues in one of their rental cars. I just hope that no one else has to go through all of these air conditioning issues that I am. It is really no fun at all. I wish that I would have driven my car instead of a rental even if it was going to put a ton of miles on my car.
